On this occasion, UKSLSS members were able to hear panel discussions about the LGBTQ+ community within the legal industry. This event was designed to empower LGBTQ+ law students and help them thrive in the legal industry, in line with Clifford Chance's goals of promoting inclusion and change.

UKSLSS members were given the opportunity to eat and mingle with Latham & Watkins lawyers throughout London, Cambridge and Oxford. Thank you to the Latham & Watkins team for organising this event!

Our first in-person event of the 2022/23 academic year was a huge success! Turnout was great and a huge thank you to A&G Partners who flew all the way from Singapore, in order to share their valuable experiences with UKSLSS members!

The UKSLSS's annual flagship event is back! We are so lucky to have been able to hear from 12 lawyers from our sponsor firms. It is the first in-person SLF since Covid-19, so we are extremely grateful to have had this opportunity to interact with lawyers from all the different areas of law!

Two UKSLSS members had the privilege of lunching with former Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong on this day. A big thanks to him for being a patron of the SCLR and a huge help to UKSLSS!

Congratulations to all our incoming freshers! We're delighted to welcome our new UKSLSS members to the UK. In this information session, Freshers got to socialise with one another and learn more about upcoming UKSLSS events.

This month, the UKSLSS hosted a mini-moot competition in collaboration with A&G. Beginners got a chance to experience mooting in pairs, with preliminary rounds based on Written Submissions and the final round judged by A&G lawyers. Congratulations to the four finalists who won internship positions with A&G!

A night filled with singing, dancing and socialising, UKSLSS and KPUM held a joint social event this year. Malaysian and Singaporean law students in the UK were given a chance to intermingle and have fun in a non-professional setting.

UKSLSS members had the opportunity to hear from International Tax and Trade Law experts over the weekend. We thank WTS Taxise for introducing to us this area of law, as well as advising our students on how to decide on a specialisation.

Over the weekend, the UKSLSS organised the Bar Careers Talk where our members heard from a panel of highly successful barristers. The barrister in the UK is a prestigious role which calls on lawyers who have the deepest passion for advocacy and the grit to forge an independent career.

As part of UKSLSS's flagship industry series, lawyers from Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow (Finance & Projects specialisation) share personal experiences about their journeys to entering the legal profession, and what they wished they had known during the process.

The world’s leading law and tech conference discussed deliberate developments and innovations in the law of technology and the technology of law. This event allowed UKSLSS members to gain knowledge in an area of law which has become increasingly relevant throughout the past few years. Our members were also fortunate enough to have the opportunity to connect with some of the brightest legal professionals and technologists.

Held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we had four exciting panel discussions this year - Dispute Resolution, Corporate, International Arbitration, and a Careers panel, followed by a virtual Careers Fair, where UKSLSS members learned more about individual firms. The SCLR 2021 was also launched here.

Similar to last year, freshers had the chance to learn more about UKSLSS and the possibility of becoming a University Representative. Freshers learnt a lot more about the society's upcoming events of the year, as well as mingled with one another.

UKSLSS had the privilege of organising a mini mooting competition in conjunction with our Silver Sponsor, Drew & Napier. Participation was overwhelmingly positive and the winners enjoyed a coveting networking lunch with the judges.

Newly introduced this year, this event is relevant to all pre-university students considering a degree in law in the UK. From university life to specific information about the modules, the UKSLSS Uni Reps and Exco members came together and discussed them. They also answered questions potential UK law students had.
 

The BCT is aimed at those interested in pursuing a career at the English Bar. Although open to international candidates, there are challenges that internationals should be mindful of; these are addressed in this informational session, followed by a Q&A with the panel speakers.

Once again, the UKSLSS partnered with SYNC to hold the VacScheme Help Desk, which has, year on year, received an overwhelmingly positive response. This year, UKSLSS members had the opportunity to hear from Singaporean lawyers working in Magic/Silver Circle and American law firms.

Here, freshers had the chance to learn more about UKSLSS and possibly even becoming a University Representative. Not only did they get to meet our members, they also got the chance to engage in a fun pub quiz (yes, very British) with their peers!

In accordance to the global pandemic, this year's event was held virtually, discussing the topical theme of "Navigating the New Normal". Our speakers this year include leading industry practitioners in dispute resolution, international corporate law and legal technology.

Members enjoyed an insightful panel discussion with trainee solicitors and associates from various Magic Circle and international law firms regarding applications for vacation schemes and training contracts, and their experiences working in the UK.

Back at it again with our annual event! This year, the theme was: "The Legal Industry of Tomorrow: Our Race for Relevance". The session focused on how UKSLSS members can strive to be better adapted to the constant changes faced by the legal industry, from technology disruptions to transforming business models. Very relevant in today's world.

A memorable evening spent networking with working alumni and training contract holders which included genuine discussions about application processes, firm culture and expectations, followed by a social dinner.

In partnership with the Overseas Singapore Unit (OSU) and the Singapore High Commission in London, UKSLSS members were offered the wonderful opportunity to hear from Professor Walter Woon, SC and Dean of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education.

The Community Justice Centre (Singapore) concluded the 2018 University Court Friends Programme with an Appreciation Tea for all the volunteers on the Scheme, including UKSLSS members who were selected to participate in it. We hope that the participants had a fruitful experience and look forward to a successful 2019 collaboration with the CJC as well!

In this year's SLF, a Networking Lunch was introduced, enabling students to speak to experts from an array of practices before the forum started. The year's theme was: "What's Next: Standing out in tomorrow's global legal industry".

Partners of R&T Singapore flew over to London to engage with the UKSLSS members. The session gave our members a chance to get to know the firm better, as well as the opportunities available.

Over the weekend, Uni Reps organised successful social events for the UKSLSS members. In London, members participated in deer-watching and sight-seeing at Richmond Park. Whilst in Warwick, students enjoyed a cosy meal together. Finally, in Bristol, students had a fun-filled bowling night. The UKSLSS isn't just about law; we also have fun!

As always, this event was hosted in conjunction with SYNC (Singapore Young professionals in Network Community). Trainee solicitors and associates in the UK participated in a panel discussion, followed by a networking session, enabling UKSLSS members to gain insights into the work culture in London.

In this year's edition of our flagship event, students engaged with local legal developments surrounding the theme: ""What Next for Singapore Law". The forum is centred around the ever-changing landscape of industries in Singapore and what aspiring law students should be on the lookout for, in terms of the legal landscape.

Special thanks to Paul, Chester and Simon, Partners of R&T who flew in from Singapore just to share their insights into the firm with our members.

We were pleased to have Jia-Yi, Peng Kun, Jonathan, Rachel, Constance, and Praveetha to join us on the panel. They were Singaporean lawyers working in the UK who have kindly volunteered to share their personal experiences with our aspiring lawyers. The session provided our students with many insights and considerations to account for when choosing a country to practise law in.

Open only to students who have completed the first year of law school, Wong Partnership LLP had very kindly offered our members the opportunity to experience a day in life of a Wong Partnership lawyer. 

The UKSLSS's annual flagship event. This year's theme was 'The Globalising Legal Industry', and our students had the honour of hearing from the Honorable Justice Quentin Loh, Judge of the High Court of Singapore, as well as many other senior lawyers from eminent firms. This event also saw the launch of Lex Loci 2016, the UKSLSS's Annual Legal Journal (see Past Publications).

The UKSLSS students walked away from the session today with many more career possibilities in their mind. Thank you to all the lawyers who took time off their busy schedules and candidly shared their valuable insights!

SLF 2015 focused on the legal Career and Life Lessons. Not only did members leave the SLF with much more wisdom, they also gained much more insight into how to make one of the toughest decisions that aspiring lawyers have to make: how to choose a practice.

Panelists presented a discussion based on this year's theme "The Legal Revolution?" Students had the honour of hearing from lawyers from a wide range of eminent legal firms.

Uni Reps from each school organised a series of social events to improve cohesiveness within the UKSLSS community. University of Southampton found themselves having "yu sheng" in March, whilst University of Leicester had a friendly match of frisbee.

Huge thanks to Rajah & Tann, Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow and White & Case, UKSLSS members had the opportunity to attend a themed ball, where they dressed to the nines and had a blast.

This year, panelists talked about "The Future of the Singaporean Legal Landscape". UKSLSS members also had the exceptional opportunity to hear from Guests of Honour Minister Mr. K Shanmugam SC and Attorney General Mr. Steven Chong SC.
